Crutches are a kind of medical rehabilitation aids

Mainly used to assist walking

Reduce the weight of the lower limbs of the affected limbs

and to help patients with various causes of

patients who cannot walk with weight on their lower limbs to stand or walk.

 

Population

Applicable to the upper limb function is sound, unilateral lower limb weakness and can not be partially or completely weight-bearing patients, such as poliomyelitis, lower limb muscle weakness, pain and lower limb surgery (lower limb bone and joint injury and fracture surgery, arthroplasty, etc. can not be completely weight-bearing patients; double lower limb insufficiency, can not be alternated with the left and right leg step patients, such as paraplegia, both hips with plaster fixation or both hips with other methods of braking.

 

How to adjust the height

Generally, you should choose an underarm crutch with a telescopic pole and adjustable length, which can be adjusted appropriately according to your height. Three methods:

1.Standing position, in the armpit and underarm crutch staff top reserved 5cm gap (about the height of three fingers), the top of the staff to the soles of the feet of the distance is the height of the crutch.

2.In the prone position, take the same measurement method as in the standing position, and the measurement should be 2cm higher than the height of the shoe on the basis of the above.

3.Subtract 41cm from the height.

Gait method

Four-point gait: right crutch, left foot, left crutch and right foot are advancing; three-point gait: both crutches, affected limb and healthy side are advancing. Two-point gait: right crutch and left foot advance at the same time, left crutch and right foot in advance.


Double crutches up and down stairs

Going up the stairs: the nurse stands behind the patient, making the patient's body close to the bottom staircase, instructing the patient to hold 1 crutch in each hand and support it at the same time, taking the healthy limb up one step, keeping the center of gravity supported on the healthy limb, the patient moves the crutches and the affected limb up to the same staircase, and repeating the action to go up the stairs.

Descending stairs: the nurse stood in front of the patient, so that the patient's body close to the highest level of the stairs to be descended, until the patient will move the crutches to the next level of the stairs, at the same time the affected limb to follow, the center of gravity shifted down, and then move the healthy limb to the next level of the stairs, repeat the action of the next floor.

 

Cautions

1.Select appropriate armpit crutches, which must have rubber pads at the bottom.

2.Check that the screws and rubber pads of the crutches are stable when walking, and wear appropriate shoes and pants.

3.Keep the ground dry and the road free from obstacles to avoid accidents.

4.Place the crutches 15 centimeters in front of the toes and 15 centimeters outward when standing.

5.Support the body with arm strength, the tip of the underarm crutch is two horizontal fingers away from the armpit to avoid brachial plexus nerve compression.
