International Rehabilitation Day丨Enhance Rehabilitation Awareness, Enjoy a Healthy Life
On October 12-13, 1992, the 47th session of the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution designating December 3 of each year as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, also known as the International Day of Rehabilitation, with the aim of integrating persons with disabilities into society and spreading the message of “Equal Opportunities, Full Participation”. The aim is to integrate people with disabilities into society and spread the message of “equal opportunities and full participation”.
This year, December 3 is the 33rd International Day of Persons with Disabilities. According to the official website of the United Nations, the theme of the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities will be “Strengthening Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future”.
Focus on Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities
Rehabilitation for people with disabilities refers to the comprehensive use of medical, educational, vocational, social, psychological and assistive devices (wheel chairs, medical beds, crutches) to help people with disabilities recover or compensate for their functions, reduce functional impairment, and enhance their ability to take care of themselves and participate in society after the onset of disability.
On November 24, the Blue Book on Disability: Report on the Development of the Cause of Persons with Disabilities in China (2023~2024), which was jointly released by the Disability Statistics Branch of the Chinese Statistical Society, the China Disabled Persons' Data Science Research Institute, and the Social Sciences Academic Press, pointed out that: entering the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the cause of persons with disabilities has closely followed the theme of high-quality development. Science and technology help people with disabilities and light up the road to rehabilitation
Science and technology for the disabled refers to a social practice of using modern scientific and technological means to help the disabled overcome physical barriers, improve their quality of life and realize social integration. It includes various aspects such as assistive technology, information accessibility, telemedicine and smart home(medical beds). The purpose of assisting persons with disabilities through science and technology is to provide persons with disabilities with more autonomy, convenience and equal opportunities for social participation through technological means.
According to the Regulations on Prevention of Disability and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, the relevant departments of the people's governments at or above the county level and federations of persons with disabilities should make use of community resources to set up rehabilitation venues in accordance with the number and types of persons with disabilities in the community, as well as their rehabilitation needs, or entrust social organizations with the task of organizing and carrying out community-based rehabilitation work such as rehabilitation guidance, daily living ability training, rehabilitation care, assistive device allocation, information consultation, knowledge popularization(wheel chairs, medical beds, crutches, etc.) and referral. referrals and other community rehabilitation work.
